I had the pleasure of job shadowing with Dr. Gerald over my school break, and I must say that it was definitely an invaluable and incredible experience! I’ll start off with the experience with Dr. Gerald himself, he is an extremely humble and selfless person as my supervisor. I applied for this shadowing opportunity just expecting to see how the life of a dentist goes and find out from what I see in the clinic, whether this life would be suitable for me. Unexpectedly, Dr. Gerald was extremely open-minded and understanding, answering any kind of questions I wanted to ask, as well as meticulously explaining what procedure he was doing for every patient.
EDG is extremely technologically advanced, with machines I had never known about until this shadowing experience. For example, a computer-guided plasma activated dental implant surgery, as well as the use of a painless, guided biofilm therapy machine for patients’ cleaning appointments. Dr. Gerald is extremely thorough in all his services. I was also invited to watch a few surgeries, and was really impressed by his sharp and efficient skills. I witnessed a few surgeries with IV sedation, as well as one with GA sedation in Aptus Surgery Centre, and it was remarkably interesting to watch a jaw cyst removal surgery done by Dr. Gerald. He meticulously plans his surgeries beforehand, with technologically advanced digital planning, and with the help of the EDG team’s strong teamwork, all the surgeries were operated smoothly and successfully.
Not only were his skills exceptional, Dr. Gerald also has a wonderful bedside manner that puts his patients at ease, and allows them to leave the clinic with a wide smile. During my weeks of shadowing Dr. Gerald, I found that his dedication to patient-centred care was very evident. I have been a patient of Dr Jaclyn for the last 2 years. While searching for the best dentist I found her articles and Q&A session answers in a certain website quite impressive so I decided to give her clinic a try and indeed it was the real deal. On my first year she assessed my mouth in great detail and found and fixed the issues my previous dentists never even discovered. I had a previous filling that had a hidden hard to access edge in between the teeth that bothered me for a long time and Dr Jaclyn fixed it perfectly. I also had my teeth cleaned using guided biofilm therapy. The methodology they used were pretty advanced and the way they guided my mouth during procedures was very modern my jaws never felt tired.
On my 2nd year I had another session of cleaning and had a new filling for my front lower incisors. This was a tricky one since the filling has to blend with the natural color of my teeth and has to be strong enough to be able to grab on to a tiny area unlike with molars that have a lot of space. Dr Jaclyn pulled it through perfectly. No stray indentations post polishing and my bite is back to normal and even better than before and ofcourse the filling were virtually invisible.
